The Fort Hill Community Library is a Georgia 501(c)(3) organization that strengthens our community by providing free and equitable access to knowledge, fostering literacy, and supporting lifelong learning for all.
Founded by Michael W Thomas' personal collection of 200+ African American history and literature books for the purpose of preserving the memory and significance of the original Fort Hill Library.
Additional books donated Allen Temple Baptist Church has grown the vision and our collection.
We aim to enrich the cultural and intellectual life of our community through diverse collections, children’s educational programs, an African American book club, and public lectures that inspire dialogue, creativity, and critical thinking.
As a dedicated center for research and study, we preserve and illuminate the social, historical, and cultural experiences of African Americans, ensuring that our heritage is honored, understood, and carried forward for future generations.

The Fort Hill Library began in Marietta, Georgia, founded by Hattie G Wilson in 1947, for the benefit of Black children, and through the use of her own personal resources. At that time, it was the only library that Black people in the community could use. Located on Lemon Street and in the heart of the Black community, it was a pillar of educational excellence, alongside Lemon Street High School.
